Here at Ardenwood Historic Farm, we have many California Black Walnut trees. Many of these trees have become large and stately and line either side of the main entrance of this 205 acre farm, operated by the East Bay Regional Park District. In the early 1900's the Patterson family planted a small English walnut orchard here and these trees were grafted onto the Black Walnut root stock. The nuts of the Black walnut can be almost impossible to open and messy if planted above a yard or picnic tables.
