There is a beatiful unstunted one of these palms growing in zone 11 on the coast near Dana point.

Nice looking very tall palm (max height 110' in native Fiji Islands) which some southern Californians have managed to grow along the coast in exceptionally nice zone 10as. But it really is a palm for the tropics. I even tried to grow this in zone 9b, and it died a lot sooner than the Veitchia arecina I had that took several years to die. Has slightly pendant leaflets, a 1' thick trunk (sometimes a bit thicker) and bright red fruits. A clump of these growing happily is a beautiful sight with their markedly ringed trunks and long, olive green crownshafts.

fyi- Dana point is zone 10b
