This plant was identified by Molseed/Cruden in 1968 and is native to the state of Chiapas Mexico where it grows in wet pastures south of San Cristobal de las Casas. White flowers with yellow cups spotted maroon. This species naturally grows in muddy, grassy fields and needs to kept wet while actively growing and dry when it is dormant. These conditions can easily be replicated in the garden by cultivating this plant in a pot with water kept in the saucer and then allowing it to completely dry while dormant..
