Calochortus dunnii Purdy is a rare Mariposa Lily found in the US only in San Diego County and also in NW Mexico (not New Mexico). It is rare, endangered and threatened by the extensive fires here in October 2003. The site of the image plant was swept by fire and also bulldozed to enlarge an access road for replacing a burned down power line. Fortunately this lovely plant exists in other areas of San Diego County not swept by fire...yet. WalterT
