Natural habitat: known only in New Zealand from the Poor Knights Islands near Tutukaka, and from Hen (Taranga) Island (Hen and Chicken Islands), both near Whangarei in the North Island. Grows naturally on rocky outcrops and on sea cliffs. Sometimes seen as an epiphyte on pohuhukawa.

Propogate from divisions and seed. Grows up to a metre high by a metre wide. Best grown in a free draining mix of rock chips and compost.

May take several years to flower. Root-binding encourages this.
