Plant was a natural variant that has bred true and has been commercially propagated by Bodger Seeds, California. Petals multiply-ruffled and deep purple with yellow anther/stamens. Seeds naturally sprout over a season in fine garden soil, then first year corms can be transplanted to containers or rockery. Second year flowering is extensive in June at mid-latitudes. Plant is a medium-lived perennial, peaking in years 3-4, then dying back as younger self-sown plants mature to full height. Beautiful ruffled purple show clustered in planters & rockeries. Does not need to be overwintered indoors in lower-48 climes.
