V. Lansdorffii is a loosely formed plant with a long flower stem. The heart-shaped leaves are not not deeply toothed. The five-petaled blooms are a rich blue-violet, the whole bloom having a squarish shape. Blooms have a lovely deep veining.

V. Langsdorffii prefers consistently wet soil in boggy areas, but will do well in cultivation if provided rich soil and consistent moisture.

All parts of this plant are edible. If grown from collected seed, it is best sown in the fall. It ranges in the wild from Eastern Asia to Western North America from Alaska to Oregon.
