I've never grown this from seed, but it's a staple in my garden because I buy it in 4-inch pots from Annie's Annuals each year. It blooms for months. I grow it in containers and set them all around my garden.

I haven't grown this myself, but wanted to add some information I found: This plant, a California native, is a hardy annual. It likes sandy, well drained soil with no added fertilizer. (Note: One UK seed source says it likes deep, rich soil.) It is a hardy annual, and is supposed to be easy to grow from seed. It flowers over a long period.
