According to the authors of "Encyclopedia of Hydrangeas" C.J. and D.M. Van Gelderen (2004 - Timber Press)," A huge shrub with very dark violet branches, much like the well-known 'Nigra'. Flowers borne in flat corymbs, lilac purple. The leaves are dark green with a purple tint. Origin U.S. Possibly introduced by Greer Gardens, Eugene, Oregon."

Other notes: Not very cold hardy. No zone hardiness noted.
