This Chinese species is infrequently sold and planted in the Midwest. Some bigger conventional nurseries offer some, but it is not know by the general public. A landscape architect planted one at my parent's house in the 1950's in northeast Illinois. It has small leaves and slender twigs and stems. If left to grow naturally, it is of an arching form getting about 6 feet high and 8 feet wide. It gets a nice purplish-red fall color. It bears small white flowers in May and small red berries in late summer and fall.
