I planted it in part-sun and it died back ... it popped up the next year on the north side of the closest wall and it's been spreading along that wall, and popping up in the shade of other plants in a mostly unwatered shrub border since them.

Appears to seek the moist spots, perhaps by underground spreading? Maybe it's self-seeding? The neighbor's overwatered lawn on the other side of the wall is enough, and it shows up close to any shaded drip emitter.

You could spread it by digging up small clumps and transplanting it.
