This sempervivum averages about 2-21/2 inches in diameter and and unlike many semps does not change color at all. It maintains its deep, dark burgundy color year round. Is very prolific but because of its color (darker colors) tends to be affected by mealy bugs. These are the little white, wax covered insects that will look like perelite flakes from potting soil. A bad infestation will kill the entire plant within a week. Mealy bugs tend to attack in late summer as the days shorten and with temperatures still high. Over watering during this time will also increase mealy bug populations. Vigilance and an over the counter insecticide labled for mealy bugs will take care of a light infestation. Always go by labled instructions when using insecticides. Also this plant may be propogated from seed or separating the off-sets and placing them bottom down on moist soil. They will root in 3 days to 3 weeks.
