From your friends at Botanical Interests: Edamame means "beans on a branch". No longer just a Japanese delicacy, this nutritious soybean with 40% protein is high in Vitamins A, B, calcium, iron, fiber, and essential fatty acids. 'Butterbean' edamames have a tender, buttery sweet flavor. Many studies have shown various health benefits associated with their consumption. They are unbelievably good when the pods are boiled, and the beans are popped into your mouth. (In Japan, they are often served as an appetizer with beer.) The 24" tall, well-branched plants have 2-3 beans per pod. They are easy to grow, like snap beans, but produce their crop all at once. Soaking seeds in water 3-4 hours before planting may encourage germination.

The 2-2 1/2' stocky plants are well-branched and stand well. The pod set is very prolific. A high percentage of pods contain three large beans which are relatively easy to shell. (90 day)
