My Matsuyoi is one of my favorites! Outstanding fall color and it has a very 'feminine' look to it. Grows wider and leaves and branches have a 'limp' look which do blow beautifully in the wind but just also add such a wonderful contrast to some of the other shapes we are used to in japanese maples (dome, upright vase, apple tree shape, round globe, etc). Because it grows wide I plan to use it along a long fenceline where it will be very showy. As always, my advice is to buy as large a one as you can afford. Buy 'juniors' instead of infants!

This selection belongs to the Amoenum Group, with only shallowly lobed leaves. The spring colour is yellow-green, turning bright green in summer then yellow and orange tones in the autumn. The unique feature of this selection is thefact that the leaves are not flat as in most Amoenum Group maples. Rather, the lobes vary from turning upwards or downwards. The overall effect is like a plant blowing in the wind, even on a calm day!
