Neutral	Joan	On Apr 26, 2009, Joan from Belfield, ND (Zone 4a) wrote: Editor's Note Some resources note that the leaves and flowers of Portulaca grandiflora (Moss Rose) contain oxalates and are known to cause acute oxalate poisoning. This species, Portulaca oleracea (Purslane), is sometimes consumed, but no data on the toxicity of Portulaca oleracea could be found in the literature. However, the plant does contain cardiac glycosides and oxalic acids, which can be toxic. We tend to err on the side of caution in PlantFiles, and the danger notation in the details above is to caution gardeners, parents and pet owners to look further for more information.
