Kniphofia, also called tritomas, and commonly called 'Torch Lillies', 'Red Hot Pokers' and 'Winter Cheer', are natives of Africa - 70 odd species of them. Once established the roots penetrate deeply into the soil, and are well able to sustain drought conditions. This colourful plant lightens up the landscape at a dull time of the year. They make lovely picked flower arrangements.
