Hyacinthus orientalis 'Menelik' is a fabulous dark, almost black, purple with a very dark stem. My photo of the full bloom cluster does a better job of showing how dark it appears. It blooms in early to mid March in my Zone 9 garden.

It is a rare heirloom, ( I don't know the year of introduction), that was named after a famous King of Ethiopia.
