I bought this bulb a few weeks ago, potted it and soon a spike emerged. This morning the sheath was still closed but as I sat at my computer an unpleasant smell filled the room. It took me a few minutes to realise it was the Voodoo lily. It smells like manure to me!

AKA the VOODOO LILLY.... grows wonderful in KY. In fact we usually have to dig several a year up.

Bulb with two leaves. It and its numerous bulblet progeny are in-ground now.
Thatīs my own plant growing indoors next to a terrace,semi shade.the flower last just one full day, and smell quite offensive. I recommend plant the bulb in a deep pot outdoors, after flowering.
Waiting with anticipation to open! Have had this bulb for 3 years, first time to bloom.

07/21/07 My Voodoo Lily is really big after only 2 years in the ground Zone 7B. I used my hand to give you a size comparison.
These grew in our woods near Pittsburgh, from plants uprooted from the garden and dumped there. The sandal is for size comparison.
just a really unusual kinda plant....
after it bloomed. maybe it will bloom again??? i can only hope.
