A hummingbird favourite here in Costa Rica. It can grow up to 8 foot high, with multiple flowers. These are shortlived, but they soon produce a seed pod, which looks a like a kiwi, full of black seeds. When planted, they grow rapidly.
Here it is starting to grow in the spring.

Young shoots and leaves are red-variegated.

Mine grew to about 6' max with absolutely no care and planted in horrible clay soil. I moved them to our new house in some good soil and more sun. They are already past 6'.
These have stout stalks and BIG rhyzomes compard to other canna.
