Carbon to Nitrogen ratio. The relative volume of green (nitrogen rich) material to brown (carbon rich) material in building a compost pile.

A basic formula is 1/3 green (for heat) to 2/3 brown (for bulk) mixed well. If the pile is too cool, add greens and if it's too warm (or malodorous) add browns
