A basic gardening task, usually accomplished with a hand tool such as a shovel, spade

Digging is done to aerate the soil, mix in fertilizer or soil amendments, or otherwise create a soil that can be planted in. See double digging for a more advanced method

Digging can also refer to the act of removing a plant from the soil, either to divide and replant it, or to discard it.

1. to move earthlike materials from one surface to another, esp. removing soil from below sea level.
