A silvery, moderately hard metallic element that constitutes approximately 3 percent of the earth's crust and is a basic component of most animals and plants.

It occurs naturally in fluorite, limestone and gypsum and its compounds are used to make plaster, Portland cement, quick lime and metallurgic and electronic materials.

The presence of Calcium in the soil gives it higher pH values. The use of its main mineral form (Calcarium) is aplied to artificially raise the soil pH.
