Definition as written by talinum:

A pruning method developed in Europe by M. Lorette. It is an excellent method for intensive fruit growing. By frequent clipping and pinching, you direct the tree's energy into producing fruit buds near the trunk or on a few short limbs, rather than out at the ends of long branches.

This is somewhat like shearing a hedge, and results in small, easy-to-care trees that bear fruit at an early age.
This method is not appropiate for cold areas or vigorous growing trees.
