Is undifferentiated plant tissue developed as a wound response mechanism by plants in response to stress or physical damage. Can be induced in vitro through defined ratios of Auxin and cytokinin levels.
I consider the CALLUS a favorable step toward rooting a cutting. It is the tissue or membrane that has developed over the raw cut end, with a somewhat raised rim around the edge. This indicates there will be coming roots instead of rot. I have taken out a cutting after a while to see if there is a callus. If there is no callus after due time there will be the beginning of decay.
Assuming there is adequate length after I cut off the bad end, Irinse the cutting in disinfectant and start again in fresh potting mix.
