Well, very simply put...the amount of water from the sky falling to the ground. Recorded rainfall is usually measured in either inches or centimeters. It is widely believed by some (not me) that most garden crops should receive one inch of rain per wk.)
In the metric system 1mm. of rain per sq. metre equals 1 litre. Therefore. for example, 1 inch (25mm) of rain is equivalent to 25 litres per sq. metre or 6.6 gallons (US) or 5.5 gallons (UK) !!!
