one set of chromosomes = haploid
two sets = diploid
three sets = triploid
four sets = tetraploid

an unspecified number of sets (but more than two) are referred to as polyploidy.

An important factor in some plants, especially daylilies and orchid species, as the number of sets of chromosomes affects the plant's vigor, the number and size of flowers, and the ability of a hybridizer to hybridize the plant.
