Adding ammendents to the soil - usually organic compost or manure to improve fertitliy and structure

Definition as written by shakemh:

A means of soil conditioning intended to alter the friability or pH level of soil. Amendments include organic matter such as compost, humus, or cover crops; as well as non-organic matter such as lime, sulfur, gypsum, or sand. Most effectively done with a garden fork, rototiller, or spade (as in double digging).
