Definition as written by Lophophora:

A sterile stigma, often modified in shape and size.

Definition as written by Monocromatico:

Sterile stamen. It can be modified sometimes into single filaments without anthers, petal-like structures associated with other stamens (like Roses and semi-double Camellias), and in extreme cases, may develop into apparently unrelated structures (like the colorful petaloid lip of Shell Ginger - Alpinia zerumbet).
