It's usually a nocturnal moth, with relatively short wings and tough body, and a "tail" that ressembles a humminbird's tail, used to balance the body while soaring in front of a flower.
These moths, as mentioned, are capable of soaring and flying backwards. They rarely land on a flower to get the nectar. They have an extraordinarily long proboscys which lets them reach the nectar from a long distance. I witnessed a few of them feeding from cacti flower, getting rid of the spines by soaring away from them and sucking the nectar with very long proboscys.
