Plants of the Cucurbitaceae family (melons, squashes, pumpkins), typified by the Lagenaria genus which produces fleshy fruit with a hard rind.

The fruits of these plants often resemble everyday objects such as bottles, dippers, apples, swans; they're frequently grown for the express purpose of drying for use in crafts and ornamental purposes.
