Definition as written by Paulwhwest:

Miniature roses are extremely diverse: the blooms are often very unique as some hybridizers have focused on creating unusual varieties; however, many others look almost identical to other roses, only on a smaller scale. They range greatly in size also -- the bushes can be from 6 inches to over 3 feet tall, and the blooms range from less than 1 inch to over 2 in diameter. Miniatures were very prevalent in the Victorian Times but lost their popularity at the end of the 1800s. Recently they regained that popularity in the U.S., but they are still not all that common in Europe. Patio Roses are also becoming very popular. Even though they are in essence simply miniature Floribundas, they are often put in a completely different group from miniatures. The reason for this is that the features and attributes of Floribundas in miniatures are especially appealing to many people; thus it was made a defining element for many cultivars.
