Definition of chinook

Categorized under "General"

Definition as written by darylmitchell:

A warm, dry wind that descends the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Chinooks are most noticeable in winter, when they can raise the air temperature above freezing and cause snow to melt. Plants can be damaged by the thawing and subsequent freezing with the return of colder temperatures, or by desiccation.
