Plants that have relatively low water requirements, or plants that are well adapted to an arid climate are often described as drought resistant or drought tolerant.
A drought tolerant plant is one that will survive in the typical or somewhat less than typical amount of rainfall in your region. Thus, what is drought tolerant in Tennesee may not be drought tolerant in Nebraska and what is drought tolerant in Nebraska may not be drought tolerant in Nevada. There is no one-size-fits-all drought tolerant plant.
