Flowers that last for a short duration; 1-2 days

Definition as written by Terry:

Plants - often wildflowers or cultivated herbaceous perennials - that germinate and grow rapidly, sometimes repeating the cycle several times within a single season. Examples include rain lilies and many cacti.

The term is commonly applied to spring-blooming plants, which usually bloom once before going dormant when the heat of summer sets in. Some of them may reappear in the fall, but many remain dormant until the following spring.
