Known as "P" on the periodic chart, and in the N-P-K ratio found on fertilizer, phosphorus is a naturally occurring and essential element, commonly found in inorganic phosphate rocks. Its Greek name means light-bearer since it emits a faint glow when exposed to oxygen.
