Any of numerous eukaryotic organisms of the kingdom Fungi, which lack chlorophyll and vascular tissue and range in form from a single cell to a body mass of branched filamentous hyphae that often produce specialized fruiting bodies. The kingdom includes the yeasts, molds, smuts, and mushrooms.

This is Shaggy Mane - Coprinus comatus. It\'s said to be delicious. Found it growing in my garden. Just so happens to be from a different kingdom....hmmm.

Fungi are also characterized by lack of chlorophyl or any other photosynthetic pigments. The cells have their shape defined by a thick wall around the membrane, just like any plant, but this cell wall is not made of celulosis, but of chitin, the same substance found on insects exoskeletons.
