Grass or other plants, such as clover or alfalfa, cut and dried for fodder.

Definition as written by Terry:

Hay has great insulation properties. Loose, it's often used to mulch plants and stabilize the soil temperatures around the plants.

Bales of hay or straw arranged in a square and covered with a large sheet of glass or plastic can be used to construct a cold frame for plants.

See also straw and thatch.
