Nomenclature literally translated means "name call" (from the Latin words "nomen" and "calare").
In gardening, it most often refers to botanical nomenclature - a system of naming plants and animals developed by 18th century naturalist and botanist Carl von Linné. He is more commonly referred to as Linnaeus (the Latinized form of his name.) See also taxonomy.
