A limb or portion of a less hardy or more desirable plant that is grafted to a more hardy, but less desirable root stock. This sort of grafting is performed for many citrus varieties, fruit and nut trees, roses, and other plants, to make the more desirable plant or cultivar better able to withstand freezes or other adverse environmental or soil conditions.
