Definition of soil pasteurization

Categorized under "General"

Definition as written by Terry:

A sterilizing procedure that does not chemically alter the soil, but does destroy harmful organisms present in the soil.

Some gardeners accomplish this by heating their soil in a microwave or conventional oven, but be warned: common garden soil will emit an unpleasant odor if placed in a pan and heated in your kitchen. Using a heat-proof roasting bag or other container to hold the soil will reduce the odor.
