A water-absorbing chemical, typically in a pellet form - that can be added to soil to increase water retention, and slow the release of water into the soil. Often used in containers where the soil can dry out even with frequent waterings.

Definition as written by Magpye:

Super absorbent polymers that have been around for a while, that can be added to retain moisture containers. It will absorb many times over its weight in water. Use sparingly.
