A process of soil sterilization that involves using the sun to heat up the soil to temperatures high enough to kill harmful organisms.
It is typically accomplished by placing one or two layers of heavy clear plastic over the area you wish to sterilize. The edges must be held down tightly so that the heat is held in.
This process is effective, but it has a drawback - it puts the area "out of commission" for an entire growing season as it must be done during the hottest months in order to ensure enough days of heat and sun to reach and sustain the high temperatures necessary.
The process by which one can sterilize the soil by the sun. Cultivate the area to be isolated, water well, and then cover with 2 - 4 mil of clear plastic.
