My only complaint would be with their lack of communication. I ordered in March for May delivery. I got two emails from them, both in March, to confirm the order and then tell me the order was being processed. I never got an email in May to tell me that the roses were shipped, so I had to "assume" they went out on the date I had specified. The roses were shipped on the right date, but I had to call them to confirm this. I am pleased that I received them, but would have appreciated an email with a tracking number at time of shipment. | | Positive | GardenGirl81 (2 reviews) | On May 21, 2008, GardenGirl81 Newburg, PA (Zone 6b) wrote:I ordered 4 Iceberg bush roses and 2 Iceberg climbing roses. Every time I place an order, I receive healthy, high quality plants that are often blooming right out of the box. To illustrate how great their roses are, I received a shipment of 5 plants last April, the week we found out we had to move to another city. I didn't want to plant them if I was not going to be living there anymore, so I repotted the roses and they had to sit on my porch until the end of July when we moved. We loaded them into my brother's pick-up, where they were whipped around at 70 mph for a 2 hour drive on I-80 to Cleveland. Then the poor things had to sit on my new porch in pots until early September, when I finally had the chance to make a place for them in my new yard. You'd think I'd have killed them, but no way! Within a month they were blooming. In fact, they never even completely defoliated--maybe it's because I live so close to Lake Erie, but I'm still amazed that they survived a nothern Ohio winter so well without any protection. It is now April again and they are beautiful, healthy, and growing strong in my new garden. I have ordered 4 more roses this spring and they just arrived, looking terrific. The prices are good and the quality is first rate--I will not buy my roses from anyone else but Chamblee's except under the rare exception that they do not have a variety that I want. | | Positive | matt4roses (2 reviews) | On May 1, 2008, matt4roses Lancaster, PA wrote: Great source...very pleased! | | Positive | iris28 (12 reviews) | On April 24, 2008, iris28 (dana)Owensboro, KY (Zone 6a) wrote:i was so happy to receive 2 new dawn eden and about face , good quality healthy . i will definitely order from them again . not to small either . The shipping is expensive, BUT, if one wants own root roses, that are not dormant, this is the way to go. All 4 roses were well packaged in 1 gallon containers, and were kept wedged into the shipping container by empty gallon containers as well as some newspaper. This was my first time ordering roses through the mail, and WOW am I impressed. I checked for everything that could be wrong, and there was not one thing that was wrong, NOT ONE! So, although the cost of shipping was slightly less than the cost of the 4 roses I ordered, I can not complain; I paid for and got great things.
Customer satisfaction: SUPERB!
Plant Materials: OUTSTANDING!!!

They were beautifully packed, wedged snugly together in their plastic-wrapped one-gallon pots with two or three empty pots helping to secure them. I am happy that there was no styrofoam. I can reuse the pots and, if I eventually have too many, local nurseries will probably be happy to take them. Although the instructions on the outside of the box warned that they might be a little yellow from the trip, they were green, pristine and perfect. Many were budded and some were blooming. They are beautiful, and I am very impressed. This is my first time ordering from them and I will most certainly order from them again for all my rose needs in the future. I placed an order for 2 Gruss an Aachen and 2 Pink Gruss an Aachen around Febuary 11th or 12th and I knew the next shipment was not to be shipped until the 18th. But, I am pleasantly suprised to have found a nice box waiting for me after work, 11pm, today. Considering the post office did not work on Monday, it only took 4 days to get here including Monday. Inaddition, 4 very healthy, green rose bushes that were carefully n individually wrapped greeted me when I slit open the box! This will make my rose bush venture much easier since the plants are so healthy. (no yellowing or dead anything here.)

As a resident of southern Louisiana, I was impressed that a portion of all proceeds would go to restoring parks in the New Orleans area. Chamblee's was one of the nurseries that would be selling these roses.
I called Chamblee's to place an order, and was told they were not yet ready. I was told the exact date they would be ready to ship in September, and my credit card would not be charged until then. I received a postcard confirming my order and the date of the shipment. For the price, I expected small plants in small pots. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised at what I received. The smallest plant was over 12" tall, and all were very healthy. The packaging was wonderful!!
I found out we were being transferred back to Texas, so I planted mine in large pots to move with me. I staked them with Tomato cages, and all over 3' now.
Thank you to the very polite and helpful young woman I spoke with. (Holly?) I highly recomend this company, and will order again when settled in Weatherford.

I was most impressed. They have literally, acres of roses. One thing I liked about their roses is that all are own-root roses, not grafted. I also like the fact that they do not sell bare-root roses, but have a minimum of one gallon containers.
The young gentleman who waited on us was polite, friendly (but not overly friendly) and knowledgeable about roses.
We were able to purchase all but two of the roses on my list. The stock was too low for them to sell right now. I'll be able to get them next season. My husband found some climbers he liked, so we got those, too.
Their pricing is very reasonable. We paid $8.95 for the one gallon container roses. We also bought two two-gallon containers for $14.95 and one three-gallon for $19.95. There are other mail order sellers who will charge that much for bare root or grafted roses.
Personally, I will never purchase another grafted rose again. Nor will I purchase a bare root plant again. We wound up spending about $250, and it was worth every penny. All the plants looked very healthy with lots of foliage. Some had buds and a couple had blooms.
I highly recommend Chamblee's. Their web site is very informative, so one will know what to expect of the plants purchased.
They also have a very cool dog who is the official customer greeter. We brought our two small dogs with us, and Bubba, our Pomeranian turned into a growl machine. Their dog, who could have used him for snack food, just backed away politely. Sapphire, our Maltepoo, sniffed him, and he stood quietly while she completed her inspection.
The folks at Chamblee's are great people and have supberb roses. I highly recommend them.

I bought 20 plants that were only 5$ each. The person said you want to look for one that is healthy and has a good system with three good canes as she pointed to the canes in the pot.
As a newbie, I would've appreciated more honesty.
I saw them later at a garden show selling the same plants for $6.97 each.
The plants all had three cuttings in them instead of three canes on one plant.
When you took them out of the pots, they were distinctly separate plants and were not very old rooted cuttings.
They were not what I was told and not what I expected to recieve.
After three years of learning about roses, I now look online about what to expect before going out to buy roses.
For the same amount (acutally 3 cents less) I bought roses from Wal-mart that were bare root, wrapped in plastic with compost keeping the roots moist. They were actually three cane roses and had a strong root system. No babying or pampering was needed when they were planted out.
Chamblees has own root roses and they are not graded by any standards. Only grafted roses are graded.
Having learned this, I personally will not buy their roses again.
I like own root roses, but I prefer healthy roses grown for at least two years. They are much less stressed and have a much better chance of survival.
Now if they (chamblees) had told me that I could get healthier and older plants by paying more, I would have done that. The problem I have is that they were asked to give me guidance as a newbie and some advice on roses. I actually went there to buy 20 roses and would have paid $10 - $15 a plant had they given me the proper advice. Company representative comment on September 19, 2007:
On Sep 19, 2007 1:17 PM, Chamblee's Rose Nursery added:We politely take the time to reply to this negative rating, but would like to list the inconsistencies in the negative claim:
1) The only garden show in Tyler, Texas, that our roses have been sold at were not sold for $6.97. If this was the price, these were not our roses.
2) The roses we have for $5.00 at our nursery are very old plants that have been discontinued due to slow sales of these varieties. Our sales staff would not have introduced these roses to a customer claiming to be "new" to roses, as larger, well-established varieties are much more appealing. We also stay in business by selling our higher quality roses. The "bargain" roses are geared toward gardeners who are not looking for specific varieties and want a low price.
3) All of our roses, including the $5.00 roses, carry a 90 day guarantee and we will be glad to replace them if they do not perform. We were not contacted by you for this information.
4) Although you refer to yourself as a "newbie", you state that you have been learning about roses for three years and have taken a class at ARE. We are always happy to educate our customers properly. In fact, we hold an annual Rose Adventure for those customers who study roses as deeply as you claim to.
5) Bare root roses are grafted roses and require much care in order to survive. Grading laws do not apply to own-root roses, as governed by United States Department of Agriculture. We only carry own-root roses, and our product cannot be honestly compared to a grafted rose sold at Wal-Mart. Numerous rose growers would support the fact that own-root roses are hardier, and easier to grow than grafted roses.
As always, had you contacted us regarding your displeasure with our staff or our products, we would have been more than happy to correct the situation. As you can tell, we are highly regarded when it comes to customer service. We are pleased to here that you are a happy customer of Antique Rose Emporium as they are a customer of ours, and friends in the rose community.

Wynn in Martinsburg WV. Company representative comment on September 17, 2007:
On Sep 17, 2007 10:06 AM, Chamblee's Rose Nursery added:Although it is Holly's responsibility to sell roses, her first goal is always customer service and satisfaction, which is the same for the entire staff. I, Mark Chamblee, was consulted on the matter at hand in the beginning and agreed with Holly that the rose was not Dr. Huey by telephone description. It was not a matter of not believing the customer, just knowledge of how the roses can be different. In the end, I made the decision to replace the rose to insure absolute customer satisfaction, which is always our ultimate goal. Our staff would never put making a sell over customer service.
Thank you for a positive rating.
