Well, was I surprised that they don't even return your emails. Yes, the same one they have listed here in many of their responses. It was no big deal and I would have taken substitutes, but to totally lie on their website about a 100% 30 day guarantee is almost criminal to me so they get a negative from me for false advertising on their website and in their catalogs.

We also answer every email that we receive. Unfortunately, even after seeing this note, we were unable to locate an email from rkidz55. The plants arrived in exceptionally good condition; large and thriving, and well packed; each was packed specially according to its habit of growth. The cost is not cheap, but I believe that it's worth it. They are also honest about the size of the plants you can expect. I found the plants to be larger and healthier than expected.
Logee's book on container and sunroom plants is a good investment for anyone who overwinters plants or has a sunroom. Their suggestion about a product to kill scale is essential for anyone who grows citrus or other smooth-leaved plants indoors and has to fight this in the winter.
Very good experience. When I can't find something locally, I will order from Logee's again. | | Positive | dave12122 (37 reviews) | On June 30, 2008, dave12122 East Haddam, CT wrote: I have been a Logee's customer for many years, both mail order and walk in trade, and my experiences have basically been positive. Unfortuately, the prices have risen dramatically over the years, especially the Hibiscus and Passiflora. I was a bit surprised to read about the recent bad experience with the staff. At worse, I have been dealt with in a businesslike manner, more often people are more than willing to help. Since everything is barcoded, plants have to be brought to the counter to be scanned. And, as knowledegable as the employees are, it would be an extraordinary achievement to actually memorize the prices of hundreds of plants!! The biggest problem is that catalog plants are often not available, especially in the cactus and succulent section. I've been wanting an Edithcolea grandis for years and it appears to be on perpetual backorder. One very helpful employee explained to me that "they can't put it in the greenhouse, because then it rots". It would seem if a plant is that hard to grow then perhaps it shouldn't be listed at all. There are plenty of easy to cultivate Stapeliads that Logee's carries, e.g. Stapelia hirsuta and Stapelia gigantea.
Overall, Logee provides an impressive selection of various families, and the plants appear healthy. (some of the specimens in the 2 inch pots were obviously rootbound). I would encourage anyone to visit the nursery in person, "nasty" is not a word I would use to describe anyone working there at all. | | Positive | jkw10k (2 reviews) | On June 30, 2008, jkw10k Boise, ID (Zone 6a) wrote:I bought 2 ficus plants from Logee's. I've placed two orders so far and I've been thrilled both times. My first order, I was amazed at the size of the plants. For the price, and because they were 2.5" plants, I wasn't expecting much more than very new starts. What I got were giant healthy plants. A ginger lily I purchased in a 2.5" pot was almost a foot tall right out of the box! All except one have put on lots of new growth in the last month or two, and the other is holding its own.
The ability to shop by zone was really helpful to me. I live in zone 8 which isn't really associated with tropical plants, but I was able to find some hardy tropicals that will grow in my zone.
Shipping was reasonable, and the packaging was great. No packing peanuts, carefully wrapped, and cool little custom containers to protect them, but all recycle-able. Plants survived shipping from the east coast to my west coast garden undamaged.

Not wanting this to be a complete negative response, I have to say that if any one has the opportunity, they MUST visit Logee's greenhouse! I lived in CT for 25 years and made that visit once or twice every year...it is an amazing place and one of the best greenhouses I have ever seen. The passionflowers are always spectacular and the very exotic plants are a sight to see! It is out of the way in one of the prettiest parts of the state and well worth the hunt. Logee's has a huge monstera deliciousa (not for sale)...a plant I have spent 20 years to locate since the only other one I have seen is in Phoenix, AZ (also not for sale). I asked about it at Logee's and these dear people sent me 2 rooted cuttings about 4 months later. They did well until I moved to NC a year ago and nearly lost them to the heat! I babied them through the winter (inside of course) and did they take off! 5' high and going strong! Thank you guys...I miss you a lot! On May 21st, 2008, lytebytes added the following:

"I got the plants in and they were in great shape. However, two have since died, and they aren't even in the ground, yet. I have watered them regularly, they have had plenty of sun, and protection from the cold. I paid quite a bit for each one, and didn't realize the pots would be that small... I paid approx the same price for quart pots from another nursery
and those plants are doing great. Is there anything you can do?
The two plants I'm referring two are both Passifloras: Decaisneana and

Many thanks, and Happy New Year!"
I ordered from Logees b/c Zone 9 didn't have the plants in stock I needed. Will not order from Logees again... It's a shame, b/c the plants I rec'd were packaged nicely and arrived promptly. I have changed my former rating from Negative to Positive re: Logees. They immediately responded to my comments posted here, and sent me two replacement Passion Flowers to make up for the ones that died at no charge. Even offered to send overnight, but I didn\'t feel that was necessary. The plants they hand-picked arrived well-packed, in great shape, and very healthy. Still wish the pots were bigger, but the plants were very good-sized. Haven\'t planted them yet, but will finally do that this weekend. Thanks, Logees--people make mistakes and good companies rectify them. I will most likely buy from Logees again, once I can find room for more plants. Perhaps when we build our deck? On the downside, they ARE a bit pricey on some items, and their shipping costs could be better (or they could offer a reduced shipping fee or free shipping on orders of, say, $50 or $100 or more), but I love the quality of their products and service. There were't too many cactus and other succulents, at least not for sale, but many interesting ones to look at. Also not too many orchids. Also not all the plants had labels which annoys me wherever I go.
The best part tho, is the nursery itself. It's a jungle, just loaded with diverse plants (even a vine growing on the bathroom ceiling). There was a group of us from the NE Garden forum that made an appearance at Logees on October 6th (I believe) of this year. There were 8 or 9 of us that went to Logee's greenhouse(s). They had 2 staff members on, and the one staff member who was actually doing greenhouse chores, watering, etc. stopped and gave us a brief tour of the greenhouses, and answered a myriad of questions all of us were asking her, almost at the same time; she answered all with a smile, was very curteous, laughed, joked around, and showed us where things were when we asked...she was our personal tour guide.
There was another Logee's employee there to help out, he told us that he worked in a different department, shipping or maintenance?, who introduced us to Logee's resident "plant pet"---Pete. Pete, do not know "his" genus nor species, is a vining plant that goes all throughout Logees check out area, and beginning of their 2 greenhouses.
The plant selection at Logee's is much greater than that in their catalog, I encourage anyone who is in the area, to visit their greenhouses. I went their with the garden group to purchase 2 plants, tree ferns. I expected them to have their "stumps" already, and they did not...I was not disappointed, nor am I...because I did purchase almost $100 of other plants from Logee's. I purchased several begonias, a sensitive plant, and a variegated plant (whose tag I lost, and name escapes me.)

I am impressed with this customer service and will not hesitate to order more exotics from Logees in the future (though I may invest in the more expensive, more established plants next time). | | Positive | golfcart (6 reviews) | On October 27, 2007, golfcart Summerfield, FL wrote: I received a beautiful, healthy hoya and a murraya today. I have been ordering from Logee's for many years, and have always been pleased. | | Positive | Seedy_52 (1 review) | On October 10, 2007, Seedy_52 Marion, OH wrote: I have always been satisfied with my purchases from Logee's, but my most recent order was beyond belief! The orchids I ordered were packed with the usual Logee care, the plants were all strong and healthy, and one plant was filled with blooms! (Now it's up to me to keep them that way!) Communication to them is responded to quickly and efficiently. I highly recommend this company! |
