"I'm a relatively new gardener, dealing with some interesting conditions - small yard, nine-foot redwood fences which provide some areas of absolute shade, and some areas of scorching sun, and a couple in between. And the classic, California Bay Area, heavy adobe clay.
I've amended the clay in some spots, removed it altogether in others, and built raised beds or used half-barrels as well, and my successes are starting to outnumber my failures - woohoo!"
