"We live in the woods on the upper Biloxi River. We lost a lot of trees during Hurricane Katrina...actually hundreds of them. Lost our house too and still have not finished rebuilding.
The positive thing about losing so many trees is that now I can plant stuff!!! Our primary focus is edible landscaping. We've planted more than 50 fruit trees and bushes in the past couple of years and now have a vegetable garden. Everything is grown organically using permaculture techniques. My chickens help the most with this.
We also like good companion plants that repel pests, attract beneficial insects, and/or improve soil conditions. Also, flowers for bees and hummingbirds, food for other wildlife, and low maintenance ground covers...grass is totally overrated in my opinion.
I teach web development at a local community college. My job is very demanding, but I am usually off during the summer semester. That's when I try to catch up on all the D-Mail...so don't take it personally if I don't respond until June :o)
If you need a faster response, email me at sadie@webdevology.com."
