May we purchased two new servers and moved Dave's Garden to one of
these servers. The other server's job was to serve images and the
Scif-Based websites (LXer.com, et al.)
Well, yesterday I finally
joined these machines together so that they are now working together to
serve DG in what's called a "3 Tier Architecture". One server
handles the database (which is the lion's share of the work) while the
other server handles the actual web traffic.
Load on the servers
instantly plummeted and pageload speed dramatically increased.
This setup is scalable and will last us a very long time.
In
other news: we are looking for a new data center in which to host our
machines. The Pennsylvania center has worked fine since May, but
we are concerned about the long-term ability of this company to provide
us with adequate service. We are researching better options in
Houston, Austin and Dallas. My desire is to have our servers
moved before 2006 begins.
