The Mittleider Method of Grow-box gardening is a synthesis of the best features of several major methods of gardening - organic, conventional, and hydroponic - giving the plant access to all available soil nutrients and microbial activity, adequate feeding and pest control, and high-density planting in a controlled environment. This book, loved by many thousands of successful gardeners around the world, is a step-by-step guidebook to Mittleider's methods for use by the home gardener. Hundreds of pictures and graphic illustrations make learning simple and pleasant. This book is a must-have for the home gardener with soil problems or space limitations.
Mittleider Grow-Box Gardens describes growing in containers, and it is the first one of his books I read. I loved it and still do! Because Jacob continues to experiment (he's still doing it in his 80's!) and improve his methods, some small things are changed in his most recent books.
For example, he now prefers to grow in narrow Grow-Boxes of 18"-wide, and sometimes uses 4'-wide boxes, but no longer recommends 5' widths. Reasons include easier access to plants and easier, more efficient watering in narrower beds.
Also, his natural mineral nutrient formulas have been improved somewhat over the years, but with this book and the free updated information on Dr. Mittleider's website at www.foodforeveryone.org, in the Gardening Techniques section, you can have all the great things that are unique to this, his first book, and also have the latest updates on size, fertilizers, etc.
This book will live in your garden with you! I highly recommend it.
