Hundreds of native species are listed, and given a brief description of theyr habitat, plants and flowers. Most of them were photographed by Roy and Margareth Mackay.
This book also tells someting about history and geography of Papua New Guinea, and pays a tribute to F.R.R. Schelchter, a german botanist who studied those orchids in the early 20th century. The apendices in the end of the book feature a glossary of technical therms, basics on how to photograph orchids, a climate chart for Papua New Guinea, usage of orchids by the natives and cultivation notes.
This is an interesting book for any orchidophiles, specially because this book shows dozens of orchids that arenīt seen in cultivation, and also shows the magnificent biodiversity of the genus Dendrobium, which fills half of this book. |
