I love this book. Not enough info for the serious collector, I'm sure, but the Irish's focus is on the species you are likely to encounter at nurseries. And I'm more interested in the cold hardy agaves and yuccas, and they cover those well. A nicely organized, well written book.
A GREAT book. My only complaint is I wish it was a little more complete with the info for Beaucarneas, Dasylirions, and Nolinas. some of the species are only mentioned in passing.
Good starting out guide, but I found way too many Agave species not listed... in fact, almost a third the Agave species I tried to look up weren't in this book. It's a shame they had to leave so much out but I guess it was in interest of space and money. What is in there is very well done and incredibly useful. Would also love it if there were more photos.
This is a must have if you work with these plants.
From beginner to seasoned grower it's almost perfect.
Very good on taxonomy and the pictures of mature plants are very enlightening.
My only fault is that there are no young plant pictures.
This would really help the majority of non-desert growers as we will rarely see mature specimins.
